Privacy Policy

How Blue Dot Weather collects, uses, and protects data so you can use the app with confidence.

Effective date: August 24, 2026

Using the iPhone or iPad app? Read the dedicated Blue Dot Weather iOS App Privacy Policy for app-specific collection, retention, and privacy choices.

Blue Dot Weather provides weather information through our website and iOS app. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, when service providers process it for us, and the choices available to you.

  • Locations you search for, save, or select.
  • Precise device location when you grant location permission and request local weather.
  • Weather requests, preferences, and basic technical information needed to operate the service.

You can deny device-location access and use manual location search instead.

The iOS app asks before optional analytics, personalization, market analysis, and first-party advertising or promotional measurement begin. If you allow them, the app may send:

  • A random app-installation identifier, session identifiers, launch and session sequence, acquisition context when available, and activation milestones.
  • App interactions such as screens and features used, actions and outcomes, detail-view duration, dashboard-section dwell and navigation depth, saved-location activity, radar use, and widget configuration.
  • Submitted search text and selected or saved destination details.
  • App version, build, device model, operating-system version, language or locale, and diagnostic outcomes.
  • Precise coordinates for the location displayed in the app, including device, searched, and saved locations, plus location source, reported accuracy, authorization precision, label, city, state, ZIP code, and time zone when available.
  • Weather context associated with an interaction, such as temperature, apparent temperature, condition, precipitation probability, humidity, air quality, alerts, and selected graph metric.

The app analytics service does not persist request IP addresses, user-agent headers, IDFA, or identifiers used to track activity across other companies' apps or websites.

  • Deliver weather forecasts and related dashboard features.
  • Analyze audiences, locations, engagement, retention, feature usage, conversion paths, and performance; personalize and improve the product.
  • Plan and evaluate Blue Dot Weather marketing, first-party advertising, and promotions, including future monetization features.
  • Protect the service against abuse and unusual traffic patterns.
  • Respond to feedback, support, privacy, and legal requests.
  • The iOS app keeps unsent analytics on the device for up to 7 days when analytics are allowed.
  • Queryable raw iOS analytics events are retained in Cloudflare D1 for 180 days.
  • Compressed full-fidelity analytics archives are retained in Cloudflare R2 for 36 months.
  • Install profiles, daily session and activity records, and per-install event summaries are retained for 5 years after the installation's last activity.
  • Consent records are retained for 7 years.
  • Daily business and market metrics that do not contain the app-installation identifier may be retained until we adopt a different business retention period.
  • Feedback text and optional screenshots are generally retained for up to 24 months, or longer when reasonably needed to resolve a request, maintain business records, prevent abuse, or comply with law.
  • Website preferences and consent signals may remain in browser storage or cookies until they expire or you clear them.
  • In the iOS app, choose Use Essential Only or change your selection under Help & Legal → Privacy Choices.
  • Turning off app analytics removes pending analytics from that device and stops future optional collection.
  • You can change location permission in device settings or use manual location search.
  • You can clear website storage and cookies in your browser settings.

Our website may use Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies for advertising, subject to applicable consent choices. Where required, Google Privacy & Messaging helps collect and manage website advertising and measurement choices.

The iOS app data described above may be used for Blue Dot Weather's own advertising, marketing, promotional, market-analysis, and future monetization purposes. The app does not currently include a third-party advertising SDK, access IDFA, provide app analytics to third-party advertising networks, or use data for tracking across other companies' apps or websites. If we introduce activity treated by law or Apple policy as targeted advertising, sale, sharing, or tracking, we will update our disclosures and provide any required choice or permission before that activity begins.

We use service providers to operate Blue Dot Weather, including Cloudflare for hosting, security, queryable app analytics, and archived app analytics storage; Airtable for user-submitted feedback; Google services for website advertising and limited historical reporting; and weather or imagery providers such as NOAA/NWS, USNO, NASA, and Open-Meteo. These providers may process information only as needed to provide their services and under their own applicable terms and policies. We require service providers that receive personal data from us to protect it consistently with this policy, applicable law, and the protections required by Apple's App Review Guidelines.

We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the service, in connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, or sale of business assets, or with your direction or consent. We do not currently sell iOS app analytics or provide it to third-party advertising networks.

You may request access, correction, or deletion where applicable by emailing [email protected]. The iOS app's deletion-email shortcut includes its random analytics identifier so we can locate associated raw events, archives, profiles, activity, and consent records. Business and market totals that do not contain the identifier cannot be associated with an individual installation.

We target an initial response within 2 business days and may need to verify a request before completing it.

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security. Blue Dot Weather is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
